La Estación Segovia Spain
A beautiful elopement wedding in the stunning historic and VERY romantic town of Segovia in Spain. 15th August 2021.
Despite the pandemic the wedding industry is witnessing a growing trend in elopement weddings, with many couples favouring European destinations. Sadly the arrival of Covid in 2020 scuppered many wedding plans forcing couples to postpone their original dates. Lisa and Jesús were one of the many swept up in the covid chaos but in the face of it all (and not without many tears) they overcame everything that life (and covid) threw at them and on August 25th 2021 THEY BLOODY DID IT.
There were many reasons they considered Spain for their beautiful wedding destination, Jesús is Spanish and his home town is Segovia. Whilst on a trip home to visit family, Jesús and Lisa discovered La Estación and they knew that they had found the perfect Spanish wedding venue.
Segovia is situated northwest of Madrid (less than an hour away) in central Spain's Castile and León region. Had I not have been their wedding photographer I would most likely never have heard of it let alone visited Segovia so I consider myself extremely lucky to have made it (just) to shoot their wedding and enjoy a day of exploring some beautiful architecture whilst I was there too.
I have visited very few places in Spain but I am delighted to now be able to add Segovia to my list. It really is worth a visit not least for the food! One of Segovia’s main attractions is a Roman aqueduct and for the hopeless romantics it is also home to a real life fairytale castle which is a must see.
Lisa and Jesús couldn’t have planned or wished for a better day. From the super cool industrial bridal prep location to the main venue we were spoilt for rustic and interesting backdrops.
The ceremony was conducted in both English and Spanish with both Lisa and Jesús declaring their vows in each other’s native language and just to make things extra special Lisa’s Father Peter not only had the honour of walking his daughter down the aisle but he married them too.
Guests came from various destinations including Italy, Denmark and the UK it was a huge effort on everyone’s part to show up for the couple given all the challenges and uncertainty surrounding travel at this time but to be honest it was worth it for the food alone, it was absolutely outstanding!!
La Estación is wonderful wedding venue. If you love an industrial, rustic vibe then this ticks all the boxes. I believe La Estación means station and it’s original purpose was a brick factory. I was in my absolute element.
I have to admit I think we were all relived when the evening came and the temperature dropped. It was absolutely roasting during the day.
With an infusion of Segovian traditions Lisa and Jesús cut a suckling pig with plates that they smashed (to prove how succulent it is), Jesús and Lisa were launched in the air (I’m still not sure why) and his tie was cut up in to pieces and sold off to the guests. Why? Who cares? When in Rome and all that…
The party was awesome, I spent a lot of it on the dance floor too and sank me some well deserved gins as I soaked up the wonderful atmosphere and thanked God that I actually made it on the day.
Segovia and the Garcia wedding was most certainly a highlight for me in 2021. It wasn’t without obstacles but it was absolute perfection from beginning to end.
Thank you Lisa and Jesús for the most memorable experience. Love you guys! XX
