THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHS AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Businesses rely more than ever on quality images to stand out. I almost wholly depend on social media to promote my businesses and without “meaningful engagement” it is too hard to reach the right clients. Without a doubt, I achieve more social media engagement, likes, and comments when I post a photo of myself .
So the chances are if you are a business owner, small or otherwise, you need some high-quality images for your socials and website too.
Marketing experts are constantly ramming it down our throats that we need to be “authentic, relatable, and professional” to be successful and they are not wrong. It is essential to keep your websites and social media platforms looking fresh and up-to-date.

TIPS FOR YOUR PHOTOSHOOT
White backgrounds can be unforgiving (especially on lighter skin tones) but work well for darker skin. Investing in a pro for your hair and or makeup isn’t a bad idea.
Think very carefully about what you are wearing as necklines can alter the shape of your top half. If you are choosing a shirt think about the colours used in the company branding and wear the colours you know suit you.
Sometimes less is more. Busy patterns can be distracting, but equally, if that’s your style, go for it!
Be yourself. I consider myself extremely lucky that I get to be myself when I work. My personality is key. If you are a small business owner then it’s likely that people want to get a feel for the sort of person you are.

BE PHOTOGRAPHED DOING WHAT YOU DO AND WHAT YOU LOVE
My husband says that he loves to look at photos of me at work. He says I always look happy. It’s true. I love my job and I do think I am at my happiest when I am taking photos. If you have a creative job the chances are you feel the same.
Often to get the best out of people it is better to be photographed whilst you are “in action”. Your body will move more naturally. I can offer direction too (so don’t worry if you think you’ll stiffen up).

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR A BRANDING PHOTOSHOOT?
Plan your outfits (colour is important) - think about what’s on your website
Clean your desk space make the most of the time you have for your shoot and don’t waste it cleaning on the day.
Gather some inspo images. You don’t necessarily need to copy your competitors, maybe just find a few images that you like and that you feel reflect YOU and YOUR business
Choose a location- light is everything, if you don’t have a good source of natural light at your place of work we may need to add some, or choose a suitable location
HAIR AND MAKEUP Do what makes you feel more confident in front of the camera, if you feel you need it, we can find a suitable hair and makeup artist.
